Understand AI companion and AI dating apps before you install one.

Pick AI Apps explains what these apps actually do, what they cost, how they treat your conversations and your data, and which kind fits what you are looking for. No hype, no jargon.

The three kinds of "AI dating" apps

The label covers very different products. Knowing which one you are looking at is the first step to choosing well.

1

AI companion apps

Chat-based characters you talk to over time. They remember context, adapt their tone and are built for ongoing conversation rather than meeting people. Think of them as interactive fiction with a memory.

2

AI dating assistants

Tools that sit on top of regular dating apps: profile feedback, photo selection, opening lines and reply suggestions. The matches are real people; the AI only helps you present yourself.

3

AI-powered matchmaking

Dating platforms that use models to rank and suggest profiles instead of swiping. The quality depends entirely on the size of the user base and what the model is optimised for.

How we review

Every guide on this site is written against the same six questions. We answer them from the published terms, the pricing pages and hands-on use, and we say when something could not be verified.

What does it really do?

Companion, assistant or matchmaking. We describe the product in plain words before anything else.

Clarity

What does it cost, including the fine print?

Free tier limits, subscription prices, in-app purchases, and whether cancelling is easy.

Pricing

What happens to your conversations?

Retention, whether chats train models, deletion options, and what the privacy policy actually commits to.

Privacy

Is it clear that you are talking to software?

We favour apps that never pretend to be a person and that make the AI nature obvious.

Honesty

How does it handle age and safety?

Age verification, content controls, reporting tools and a working support channel.

Safety

Is it still good after a month?

Memory quality, repetition, outages and whether the experience holds up past the first week.

Longevity

Before you choose

Decide what you want from it

Company and conversation, help with real-world dating, or a platform to meet people. The best app in one category is useless in another.

Read the pricing page twice

Most apps are inexpensive to try and expensive to keep. Check what the free tier removes and how renewals work before you subscribe.

Treat chats as not private

Unless the policy says otherwise, assume conversations are stored and may be reviewed. Keep personal and financial details out of them.

Reviews are on their way. We are completing our first round of month-long tests. Individual app guides will appear here as they are finished. Until then, the questions above are the checklist we use ourselves.
